Soy wax vs. Paraffin wax - Which is better?

Our beautiful candles fill a room with cheer and warmth. Candles should be pleasurable and beneficial to your wellness, so we have ensured that our ingredients are all-natural. Paraffin wax is a common element in many candles we vow to avoid. This type of wax harms both people and our planet, so we opted for soy wax. Soy wax comes from soybeans, a hydrogenated form of soybean oil. How about paraffin wax? Petroleum - a harmful ingredient also used in making oil and gas. Fossil fuels are non-renewable, which makes paraffin wax unsustainable. Back in the 90s, the alternative option of using soy wax emerged. As we can continue growing more soybeans on our planet, soy wax is considered sustainable and a 100% natural resource.

Soy candles emit less soot and toxins

Soot is inevitable as all candles emit it, but did you know that paraffin candles tend to emit way more soot than soy candles? The downside of soot from paraffin wax candles is that it will discolour your candle jar and potentially get soot onto surfaces or furniture nearby. When choosing to burn a paraffin candle, carcinogens and mysterious toxins are released into the air around and breathed in. Whereas, when you burn a soy candle and due to soy wax being biodegradable, it will not contain those harmful toxins.

On a side note, wick trimming is also beneficial in reducing soot. You can read more about why it is best to use a wick trimmer right here.

Some food for thought - soybeans are also a staple food in many people's diets! It equates to a happy planet and wellness for you, your family, and your beloved pets.

Soy wax burns longer while holding more fragrance than a paraffin candle

Depending on the size of your candle and compared to paraffin wax candles, soy wax can burn longer - by approximately a minimum of 30 to 50 percent. It is best to burn your candle for at most 4 hours per use to prevent overheated candle wax.

With the healthier option of using soy wax candles comes the fulfillment of stronger fragrances that won't be overpowering. Why is that? The heightened aroma of soy wax over paraffin wax occurs because less soot and fewer toxins are released, creating a natural appeal. When burning a paraffin wax candle, the interference of chemicals and scents defeats the purpose of use.

At Maison Rose, an optimal experience means that your candle should have a clean burn while enjoying an aroma that is safe and pleasant. Say hello to scented candles with natural fragrances!
